I was in church this past Sunday and my uncle (who is also the pastor of the church I was at) said something along the lines of, “You were created with the sole purpose of worshiping God. Don’t make life too complicated.”
It was funny that he said that, because something I have been trying to challenge myself with, is living everyday with heaven in mind. Regardless if Jesus comes back in this moment or if He chooses to tarry, we must be ready. Every moment is a moment to be ready for His return.
Finding our purpose is something I feel like we all come back to at different phases and transitions of our life. To find our purpose, we must look at why we were created. When God looked upon creation on the sixth day, He saw it was fit for man to be created, in His very own image, the Imago Dei.
We were created to fellowship with God in the garden. We were created to know Him, to love Him, to walk with Him, and to worship Him.
How easy is it to forget that? When was the last time you were reminded that despite all the seemingly “big” life choices you have to make, paths you choose to follow, relationships you choose to foster, that fellowship with God should be taking priority?
May today be the gentle reminder for you, that you were created in the very image of God, for a life of fellowship with Him.
When we live everyday with heaven in mind and look earnestly for the return of our blessed Savior, we will be actively living with the purpose we were created for, fellowship with God.
Fellowship with God and eternity go hand in hand.
The lyrics of Homecoming, by Cory Asbury have recently touched my heart,
“And I see bright crimson robes draped over the ashes
A wide open tomb where there should be a casket
The children are singing and dancing and laughing
The Father is welcoming
This is our homecoming
Roses in bloom pushed up from the embers
Rivers of tears flow from good times remembered
Families are singing and dancing and laughing
The Father is welcoming
This is our homecoming
Heaven joins in with a glorious sound
And the great cloud of witnesses all gather 'round
'Cause the ones that were lost are finally found
The Father is welcoming
This is our homecoming
Scarlet sins had a crimson cost
You nailed my debt to that old rugged cross
An empty slate at the empty grave
Thank God that stone was rolled away.”
For those of us who profess and believe in Christ as our Savior, we have so much more in store for us than what this world has to offer. Thank God that we are not fulfilled in the things that surround or affect us in this life, because they are all temporary. In John 16:33 Jesus states, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” Thank God that He has overcome this life. We are no longer bound to the fleeting circumstances of this life, but we are living for eternity! We are living to be one with Him and for the sole purpose of fellowshipping with Him.
Deuteronomy 32: 9 states, “ But the Lord’s portion is His people, Jacob, His own inheritance.”
We are His portion and He is our prize. He is jealous for us (Deuteronomy 4:24) and He delights in our surrendered hearts, because He wants what is best for us, an eternity in heaven.
Merciful Father, remind us to live everyday with heaven in mind. Remind us of our desperate need to live in fellowship with You and to keep our eyes locked on You. May communion with You take priority in our life, words, and actions. Thank You for gracing us with this Truth today and the ability to dwell in Your Presence through Your Precious Holy Spirit. We love you, Abba. In Jesus name, amen.
Amen! I can’t wait to live every day in his glory! There will be no need for the sun, for the glory will shine
