Imagine our heart like a mirror, it is strong and has so much purpose, but also delicate and fragile. If our heart is the mirror, life and all it brings are the cracks. There are circumstances that we didn’t ask for, but that we are handed that crack our once perfect mirror. A job that you thought was going so well, is quickly taken from you. Someone who you imagined your life with, decided one without you. Your parents split. Family members get sick. Loved ones pass. Friends move. These circumstances crack our mirror.
The cracks bring anxiety, loss, change, heartbreak, betrayal, death, depression, and so much strain on a mirror that was meant to be free. Our human nature is to “fix”, no one wants a broken mirror of a heart, full of sharp edges and pain. Now imagine taking all of these broken pieces of our mirror and trying to put them back together. Whether you use glue or reflective paint, a broken mirror is a broken mirror.
Have you ever tried to use the things of this world to fix your cracked heart? How is that working for you? Because it will never be as God intended it to be. Drugs, alcohol, vapes, “self-help”, attention from others, distractions, or whatever you use to fill a void will never fix your broken mirror. You within yourself cannot fix your broken mirror. But, I know someone who can, The Healer.
I thank God that He is able to restore, but I also thank God that He makes all things new. You do not have to worry about fixing the thing that cracked your mirror two years ago, or that cracks your mirror daily, because God is ready to make it new. You see, if we try to fix our heart, we will be left with the visible cracks that remind us of past hurt. But when God makes our heart new, no cracks remain. Every broken piece of our life is made whole, by His life giving breath that He breathes on us.
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:The old has gone, the new is here! (NIV)”
Isaiah 43:18-19, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
To speak plainly, if you take a broken heart and try to fix it your way, it will never be all that it was created to be. But if you, like I am learning to do, decide to give God the cracks, in every moment, He will make your heart new. That does not mean the cracks don’t hurt and the circumstances are no more, but they are now handed into the hands of the one who can heal them.
There is no wholeness or healing outside of Christ. So I invite you to join me today in allowing Him to make us new.
Revelation 21:4-5, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
I wrote this prayer over myself and wanted to share it, with hopes it may touch the broken pieces of your heart, as it does mine. I pray it encourages you to earnestly pursue after the wholeness that is found in Christ alone.
God, make me new. In the pain, bring life. In the memories, bring peace. In the heartbreak, bring wholeness. In the lack of understanding, bring trust. In the ashes, bring beauty. In my heart, bring forgiveness and love, as I have freely been given. God, make me new. In Jesus name, amen.
I will leave you with this last verse, it is one of hope you can cling to, as God daily makes us new, together.
Isaiah 61:3, “...to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
He is faithful.
〜“What can i give You, that you can’t make better? All of my ashes you turn into gold. You are the Giver, You are the Treasure, a glory too great to behold.”〜
So good!!
