Transformed

A reoccurring and consistent prayer request of mine, has been for God to transform my heart and mind, making it new.

This has been my prayer request, because I cannot function with the current heart and mind I have now, I need a new one.

My current heart is heavy, carrying worries of everyday life, it is hurt by other people, and it is not whole. It has been bruised, the blood vessels broken, now purple and blue. My current mind can make its bed in the depths of darkness, and carry me far away from Truth. It replays what I would rather forget, it has no mercy.

The current heart and mind I possess are not by God’s design or intention. Paul speaks directly to this issue in Romans 12:2 when he states, “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God (CSB).”

The Greek word for “transformed,” as seen in this passage is “metamorphoō” which means to change or transform. Another meaning for this Greek word is metamorphose. While you may not know the exact stages, most of us are familiar with metamorphosis. Metamorphosis is the process by which immature beings transform into adults throughout stages. Butterflies are most commonly known for their drastic and beautiful change, while undergoing metamorphosis. For a quick run down, caterpillars basically eat until they can’t anymore, they shed their old skin, then hang upside down. This is when the chrysalis is formed and complete metamorphosis takes place. The caterpillar becomes a butterfly, but it is still contained in the chrysalis. Then, the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis in all its beauty, a transformed creation.

The word, ““metamorphoō” is a verb, meaning it is something in action, such as we see with the butterfly. In order for the butterfly to become all it was designed to be, majestic and beautiful, it was first a caterpillar. Parallel this to our lives. Our “current mind and heart,” may be caterpillars as I touched on above. They are not living in full potential to what God has purposed in them. And because of that, He calls us to allow Him to renew us, to make us new, to chrysalis ourselves so we can undergo a personal metamorphosis. This is the kind of metamorphosis, just like in the caterpillar, that completely changes the way we think, talk, and view things. It transforms us into the image of Christ, it aligns us with our calling, that we were made in His image, and allows His Presence to dwell in our lives. This process requires us to take up our Cross and to be transformed.

The metamorphosis transformation takes different periods of time for different butterflies, but generally anywhere between four days up to two weeks. However, God can transform your mind today. In an instant. God has purposed in our lives beauty beyond measure and good things beyond our comprehension. But, we must have His mind to receive them. He calls us to be transformed, that we may walk in our ultimate purpose of knowing Him. He can make us new, transforming our ashes to beauty, making our lives beautiful.

I have been asking God to transform my heart and mind. That it no longer be mine, but that I may possess the heart and mind of Christ.

I want to be beautifully free and transformed in Him, just like the butterflies. I pray you join me in this today.

If He can do it for the butterfly, He is more than able to do it for you.
